When Choosing Decorative Rugs
I love rugs! How can I not when they are so diverse, pretty, functional and effective home decors? Since old times, rugs have been a common sight in many households. They give so much beauty and warmth to a home that you can't help but be proud that you have such a nice-looking place you call your very own.
Rugs have the power to create any mood, look or ambiance we wish to convey. They also serve functional purposes that make our lives easier, particularly in the complexities of home decorating. Rugs are accessible, vibrant, diverse and adaptable.
Large area rugs in particular, and carpets might be interchanged. It can be called a mini-carpet. But the difference is in their size. Any floor cover less than 40 square feet is a rug while beyond that measurement is already a carpet.
Rugs can be selected based on two parameters. First, based on the material used in the manufacturing of the rug and secondly, depending on the area where it needs to be placed. Area rugs can be low priced (cotton and synthetic) or astonishingly expensive (ancient weaves). The cost of a rug depends on several factors; mainly, the material used in it, how they are manufactured, the amount of craftsmanship involved and design complexity.
Some rugs made from certain fabrics and methods such as handmade wool, silk, blended wool and silk Oriental are incredibly long lasting. Nowadays, machine-made rugs are creating a craze where computerized looms are made as opposed to manual knotting or weaving. This costs lower than handmade rugs.
The types of rugs that we see on the market are classified as – handmade or knotted rugs, machine-made rugs, modern rugs, traditional area rugs, among many others. In knowing what type of rug you want, also think about these things:
Shape and Size: The most common sizes are 2' x 3', 4' x 6', 5' x 8', 6' x 9' and 8' x 10'. Rugs come in various shapes such as rectangular, round, square, oval, octagonal or in the form of long runners.
Your feet may be touching the rug and not your hands, but the texture plays a part too. You would want a comfortable and cozy rug, not something that you wouldn't want to place your feet on if your life depended on it.
The colors, patterns, texture and design encompass the rug's style. Your personality will play a big part in the selection. Let your true self come out. Let the rug be an extension of yourself or an expression of what you love in life, may it be in color, looks or texture.
Texture: The feel of a rug is a subjective matter which depends on you. This is the only feature which cannot be judged while shopping for a rug online.
I hope that these things help you in figuring out the area rug of your dreams.
