Traditional Italian Glass Chandeliers In The New Century.
Italian glass, especially Murano glass and Venetian glass, is famous for its use in decorative lighting accessories like Ceiling Pendants. Murano is a small island near the Italian city of Venice. A special kind of glass crystal was invented there. The glass, which is particularly good for glass lighting, is known as Murano glass. There were other types of glass manufactured in Venice, which are predominantly used for innovative lighting techniques. It is known as Venetian glass. But now, with Murano becoming the hub of Italian glass manufacturing industry, both Venetian glass and Murano glass are used interchangeably to denote Italian glass. Among the lighting devices, those made with Italian Murano Glass lighting technique have a special place and value, because of its vividness of color and perfection of making. Italian glass lighting techniques have become so popular that such type of glasses are produced in other cities of Italy and even other countries in Europe. All varieties of such glasses are also known by the name Italian glass.
As already mentioned, Italian Glass is mainly used for making decorative lighting devices like chandeliers. Chandeliers are a type of specially and artistically designed lighting devices that serve two purposes. One is the usual function of providing light to the room and second is to impart an aesthetic appeal to the room with its elegant design. These have an attractively branched out structure and look particularly eye-catching when attached to the ceiling. A chandelier may contain several lamps. There are specially arranged prisms in a chandelier, which reflect and scatter light to increase the brightness. Chandeliers have been used since several centuries ago. In the olden days, chandeliers were the privileges of the kings, ministers, or persons of similar capacity. In the contemporary society, people of nearly all walks of life select chandeliers to decorate their home. The design of chandeliers has been undergoing changes with each passing era. While the basic design remains that same, the design trends of different era have been incorporated into the basic structure. Contemporary glass chandeliers come in many designs and shapes. Some of them have amusing names such as candle nozzle, canopy, cage, corona, crown, crystal, Dutch, finial, molded, and prism chandeliers. Classical style chandeliers like neoclassical style chandelier and regency style chandelier are also highly popular.
Lighting Fixtures are manufactured using special types of reflecting glass. Chandeliers with Murano glass lighting are considered as one of the best quality chandeliers. Innovative lighting techniques are used in contemporary glass chandeliers to make them more attractive and bright. Glassmaking and chandelier making are considered as art rather than a mechanical work. It requires skill, craftsmanship, and above all, patience. It is said to be a craft that can be mastered only after years of experience. But now technology helps in certain aspects like computer aided design, which helps in visualizing the final shape and structure of the product, before completing the actual product. As a result, a number of spectacularly colorful and exquisitely designed chandeliers made using Italian glass lighting technique are available in the market today.
