Tips To Discover the Differences Between Quality and Inferior Rice Cookers?

"You get what you pay for", says the old cliche, which is entirely true for rice cookers. Because rice seems to be such a simple food, and the cooker such a simple device, people usually don't want to spend more than the bare minimum when they purchase one. However before you decide to buy one, it is good to make some research.

You can ask your friends how they like their rice cookers. Then you should ask them how much they paid for it. More than likely you will find that those who spent more money on their rice cooker love it, and those who bought a cheap one, are not pleased with it.

Before you buy, you will have to ask your self how many times will you use your rice cooker? You don't need any special appliance if you eat rice only once or twice a week. But if you love rice, and you want to have rice every day and you want to try different specialties, than a rice cooker seems to be a great kitchen tool to spend your money on.

Everybody knows that it is good to let the rice soak before you start cooking it. A more expensive rice cooker has a built-in timer which allows you to delay the start of the cooking process many hours. So you can let the rice soak as much as you need. Another important feature of a high-end appliance is that it can monitor the temperature and can make adjustments if necessary. The cheaper models don't have this feature, so most of the times you will get hard-to-clean, crispy, burnt rice on the bottom of the cooking pan.

A high-end rice cooker has a wide range of possible settings, so you can make adjustments based on the type of rice you want to prepare. This way you can differentiate the cooking process if you have white rice, brown rice, beans, wild rice or risotto. The consistence of rice can be also chosen: you can have dry or wet rice. Whatever your preferences are, you can get exactly the same result every time.

And you can buy extra add-ons such as a steamer basket: with this, you can prepare steamed vegetables as you cook your rice. A steamer basket can also be used to cook fish or chicken.
