Luxury Rugs
Every handmade rug has its own story, which is beautifully woven into it by the skilled hands of an experienced craftsman. These luxury rugs are handmade, and every yarn is carefully drawn in to create a beautiful story. Their rich and vibrant colors, soft, warm texture and intricate patterns make them functional pieces of art. Many of these luxury area rugs originate from India, Pakistan, China, Tibet and several other countries where fine weaving is an ancient art.
Handmade rugs are indeed exceptional works of art; each one is made up of thousands of knots that are joined by a skillful weaver. Based on the number of knots tied per square inch, it can take few months to over a year to weave each one of these creations. Handmade pieces are much more expensive than their machine-made counterparts as a great deal of skill and knowledge goes into their making.
There are various types of rugs available in the market. You can find machine-made rugs, modern, contemporary, traditional, natural fiber, hide rugs and so on, but none can match the fine craftsmanship and excellence of those that are handmade. They are truly unique.
Some of the different types of luxury area rugs include:
Hand-Knotted Rugs -The creation of a hand-knotted masterpiece requires endless patience and a lot of hard work by a team of skilled, committed craftspeople. These rugs have warps that are cotton strings tied on a frame – these become the foundation of each piece. Each tuft is created by looping pile yarns which are usually made of wool or silk around the warp and then placed one by one onto the rug. It can sometimes take over a year to weave a large hand knotted creation, but the end result is outstanding in luxurious beauty and intricacy.
Hand-Tufted Rugs – This method involves stretching cotton canvas on a frame and pushing pile yarns through the canvas by using a hooking tool, which is then cut to form a tuft. Because there are no knots, a rug similar in look and feel to those that are hand-knotted can be created at a fraction of the time and cost. Usually hand-tufted rugs do not have fringes and are normally less expensive than their hand-knotted counterparts and offer great value to the buyer.
Flat-Woven Rugs - These are woven on a base similar to hand knotted rugs. Cotton warps are strung on a frame. But instead of looping the pile around in knots, they are threaded back and forth to create a flat pile. By and large, flat weaves are usually used to create highly flexible floor coverings and tapestries. They are the quickest and the least expensive hand made rugs to manufacture. Most of them are reversible, which increases their life span.
Owning a luxury rug means giving homage to an ancient art. Because of their intricate designs, extraordinary colors and unequalled quality, these pieces are highly prized. They are the very finest area rugs that one can own. Luxury area rugs are often referred to as heirloom quality. Good care should be provided to a luxury rug for it to be able to retain its glow for generations.
