How To Create A Bedroom That’s Perfect For You

Your bedroom is your sanctuary; a place to go to when you want to get away from it all; a place to distress; a place to just be. It is imperative that your bedroom should suit your personality, whether you are a traditionalist at heart and have a preference for pristine white or whether you are more carefree and find colors more soothing.

Choosing a bedroom décor theme that goes with your personality is the best way to launch a bedroom decorating project. Adding a lot of personal touches makes the bedroom cozier and more intimate. Include a lot of photographs of the two of you and display precious mementos. In a bedroom meant for two, try not to choose décor that is either too masculine or too feminine. Small changes and astute additions can give your bedroom a whole new personality. While whites and creams will drench your bedroom in simple elegance; greens and blues can infuse your bedroom with an atmosphere of refreshing energy.

Creating a Victorian Bedroom
A four poster bed with a canopy and lots of white fabric with lacy trimmings bring the romance of the Victorian Era right into your bed room. A mirrored armoire to hold clothing, a carved ottoman with floral print or white textured upholstery and plenty of pillows with lace trimmings complete the pretty Victorian picture. For added effect, include a few intricately craved furniture pieces and two winged chairs to sit and relax in. White wood paneling gives the room a textured look.

Creating an Island Getaway Bedroom
Refreshing and soothing, an island getaway bedroom is among the more popular bedroom themes. Dark Colonial- style furniture forms the perfect backdrop and gives the room a timeless elegance. If you prefer a more casual look, rattan furniture is just perfect to set the mood. Romantic chandeliers and tiffany lamp shades, brass candle bras, and jute or linen curtains in neutral and earthy shades all exude an atmosphere that is reminiscent of an island paradise. A casual sisal area rug helps tie all the elements together.

Blues, greens and yellows in stripes, florals and checks are perfect if you want to create a relaxed and casual bedroom. You can choose to mix and match fabric and accessories in these three hues for an charming eclectic look or choose any one color if you prefer the monochromatic look. All three colors are at once soothing, refreshing and cheerful. Light, airy curtains and floral prints bring a cool fresh feeling into the room. A rocking chair and plenty of large, comfortable pillows complete the look of the room.

Creating a Rustic Styled Bedroom
Replicate the rustic look of a country styled bedrooms with bucolic stone walls and leaded windows. Keep the furniture wooden and rugged or use woven rattan.  Avoid highly polished or lacquered furniture for a rustic styled bedroom. Use light colored curtains and bedding to offset the darker-colored walls. Display large, framed family photographs on the walls. Plenty of flowers bring the countryside right into your bedroom.

Creating a Traditional European Style Bedroom
Gold accents and dainty details add a European flair to your bedroom. Choose wallpaper that has petite, pastel designs and put a dainty border around the room. A ceiling mural will add dimension to any traditional European styled bedroom. Whether it is the bedding or curtains, choose delicate, petite designs and complement it with pastels. No dark colors and loud prints in a European bedroom.
