Getting rid of irritating rats

Rats are filthy creatures who are expert in entering the houses and making the entire place messy. Rats in the home can bring disease and even bugs. Rats have a tendency to chew on wires which is fatal.

How to get rid of rats

Rats are not something you want in your home. It is important to find out how they enter our homes and once we have spotted that, the next step is to prevent them from entering our homes.

If your house is infested with rats, then you need to get rid of them.

Rats are visible in all open spaces, cupboards, beneath the bed, in kitchen cabinets. Rats crave for food and indulge on pet food. Rats have a special attraction to all types of waste food which includes animal food as well.

Rats also infest the exteriors of the house and make themselves comfortable in garbage bins, cement and concrete slabs, wooden piles etc If your yard or garden is rat infested, they would surely ransack your home.

The priority is to clear the waste and junk in your yard.

The wood required for the fireplace or other timber material should ideally be placed away from the ground. Make sure to clear all the rubble and trash from your yard or garden.

Keep trash bins tightly closed. Do not leave pet foods outside, including bird food that is not in a high container.

Once cleaning of the exterior of the house is through, the next step is to clear the interiors.

If you have a place for storing your dry grains and foodstuffs in the basement area of your home, ensure that they are tightly closed, so as to not let the rats into the bin. Make sure any holes or other openings to your home are sealed off. If your courtyard has big trees then you need to trim the branches which are close to your terrace or the roof, as the rats can jump onto the roof. Rats love the moist atmosphere, especially the kitchen sink and the bathroom drainage and would stay in places which are dirty.

Once you have identified that there are rats in your home, either hire the services of a professional or try out laying rat traps.

Rats are absolute pests and utterly unhygienic and your family could suffer health ailments, if left untreated.
