Do-It-Yourself Residential Security Systems Becoming Advanced

I Wish We had Residential Alarm Systems
This past winter, we took a vacation to Jamaica with the kids. It had been years since our last vacation, so we planned to be gone for fifteen days. I was worried about leaving the house empty for such a long time and mulled over with my husband possibly getting some home security before the trip. We live in a good location with a very low crime rate so my husband scoffed at the idea, saying home security was not worth the money since nobody was going to break in.

Well, my husband was obviously tempting fate, because upon our return we discovered our house had been robbed. And I do not mean they took the laptop and dvd player. The robbers took virtually everything and the house was a wreck. They even stole a blender and steak knives.

We had totally locked the house before the trip. We attached timers on some outlets in the house. We canceled mail and newspaper delivery. We did everything you should when going away on vacation. The cops said locking everything up is good, but the criminals can jimmy a locked door open pretty quickly and quietly – and after that they have all your stuff. He said the only things that actually discourage burglars – besides a big, snarling dog inside our house for two weeks – are security alarm systems.

Once the detective got his information and the dust settled, I handed out a few I told you so’s to my husband and then we started really talking about what happened. This was a very frightening and unnerving thing we did not want to experience again. It was clear that to really safeguard our possessions – and more importantly, ourselves – we had to get an alarm system for the house. I called alarm and security companies in town and soon found out there are tons of options to home alarm systems and the cost is all over the map too. Fully installed and monitored systems with smoke and fire sensors, telecommunications, and internet access can cost hundreds to put in and then about a hundred bucks a month for the service. They cost a lot, but that really is a lot of protection.

My husband and I are on a smaller budget, and fortunately my husband is sort of handy with things at home. He is not a professional by any standard, but the home alarm systems we ultimately bought were pretty simple, yet extremely effective. In little kit, they provide a battery powered receiver and two basic motion sensors that shoot beams toward entry ways. We bought a couple inexpensive expansion kits to add detectors on other windows and our garage. So for maybe a hundred and fifty bucks we installed a wireless home security system. It lacks some of the big elements, but we are much more secure. More Residential Monitoring Systems Here: http://home-security-alarm-systems.com/free-alarm-quote
