Decorating With Red – Do I Dare?
Color trends come – and color trends go. In the fifties, the trend was that certain shade of green that could be found in everyone’s kitchen – most appliances were the same color of green. Then, for a while the trend was yellow appliances – and then white. Now, many people prefer stainless steel appliances. The good thing about color trends when it comes to decorating your home is that even if you choose to go a different route, it is okay. Most homes reflect the tastes and spirit of the owner.
Your home is the one place where you are allowed to make a statement – and share a bit of your inner self with anyone that enters through your doors. Color can set the tone of the room and the moods of the people who use the room. It is often suggested that you use bright colors in a babies room – so that the room is cheery and happy for baby and so that baby can learn to focus on one thing at a time. Many times a girl’s room will be done in pink, while a boy’s room may be done in blue. But is it really okay to break away from the norm?
Bold and Beautiful
Red – not the first color that comes to mind when thinking of decorating your home. It takes confidence to decorate with red – the confidence to break away from the norm and make your own bold statement. Use correctly, red is a color that can create warmth and is easy to live with. To many people, the color red symbolizes confidence, energy, and vitality. Red can also mean angry and aggressive. The key to using red as a part of your décor is knowing just how much red to use to create the atmosphere that you are after.
Red makes a wonderful accent color and goes well with just about any other color scheme. Splashes of red throughout a room can bring little splashes of vibrancy right into the room. There are many ways to accent the room with red without going overboard. For instance, using red artwork on the walls. The room is accented with red, but not overpowered. Try finding pictures that focus on the color red, or even red picture frames for light colored pictures. The red will stand out against the backdrop of the light pictures and the wall color and add just the right amount of dash to the décor.
Red area rugs are also a great way to bring red accents into a room. Using an area rug that’s basic color is red allows you to place smaller red accents throughout the room – perhaps a couple of pillows featuring red, or red candles placed throughout the room. For a nice, bold statement from the outside, many people are painting their doors with a high-gloss red. Against the backdrop of the house, the red door can look friendly and inviting to friends – even before they get inside.
As you can see, red can be used to add excitement and panache to any room in your home. Red invites feeling of warmth and a love of life that any host would be happy to inspire in guests. So, brighten up that room – add a little splash of red – and you will be adding a little spice of life!
