Window blinds are the coverings used for the windows to give shade and privacy to your place, typically attached to the inside side of the window. They all come with a way to easily adjust how much light enters the room, from a simple wand that you turn to a remote control device. The control you have will depend on the type of blinds you purchase and the material they are made of. Even with the blinds completely closed, some light may still get in. There are more versions where both the mechanisms are mixed into one single rod. There is a large variety of types and styles of blinds to choose from.

One type is slat blinds which include the fairly well known ventian blinds. Venetian blinds originated in Venice around 1770. They offer more control of how much light you see. They add a little to being energy efficient. Then there are Pleated Shades. This type of shade is made using pleated fabrics in most any color you can imagine.

Then there are the Honeycomb Shades also known as Cellular Shades. These shades take the pleated shade idea and add to it. They take 2 or more of the pleats and sew them together in a fashion that creates compartments. These compartments then catch and hold air which in turn creates an insulation barrier of sorts and can be a help with energy bills. Honeycomb Shades come in quite a few styles. As and example, you can get them with two or three cells.

Roman Shades are neat in that they form an accordion type pattern when you raise and lower them. They're pretty simple to operate and have the added benefit of being a good insulator.

When you install blinds make sure there are no restrictions when blind is open the whole way. Standard size blinds don't always fit right and may need some customization. Here's where the old saying of measure twice, cut once comes into play. Blinds on your windows are as we mentioned before, great for keeping people for peeking in and also to control the amount of light that comes in.
