The Pot Calling the Kettle Black

Thought I'd catch your attention. No, I'm not writing about equally guilty people accusing each other of dire deeds.

I'm writing about how to clean pots, kettles and pans which have been blackened by use over a wood or charcoal fire, or from accumulated grime from burnt grease; clean them very effectively, as taught by my grandmother to me, and taught to her by her grandmother.

Blackened pot bottoms are a problem particularly for those whose wood-burning stoves are not just decorative fixtures in their kitchens but are in regular cooking use. Gas or electric stove users can still get grimy pans from burnt grease and food particles stuck to the bottoms and sides.

Dirty-black bottoms of pots and pans are no-no's especially if these are an integral part of your kitchen decor — hanging on the walls or over the kitchen island. Even modern kitchen design mavens would look down on stained cooking vessels be they on the walls or on the shelves.

Gather up the wood or charcoal ash from those stoves, the fireplace or even the barbecue grill, because ash is the best cleaning agent for those dirty bottoms.

Wet these pans, coat them with ash and let stand for a bit. Using your scrub or scouring pad of choice and more ash, scrub these pots and pans then rinse.

You will see what I mean.

Table versus Island

I watched my friend’s kitchen island installation and it convinced me that I should finally switch from the kitchen table I had held on to for so long, to a kitchen island of my own.

Our wooden table held so many memories for me, of midnight snacks and private conversations, joint efforts at preparing and cooking for family get-togethers, of homework and email while munching on snacks. Each nick, scar and stain on the wood was a story in itself.

I said I would never exchange it for the high-tech kitchen island, even if the latter was space-saving; but when I saw how my friend’s choice of a wood and stone surface evoked a hominess that belied the modern gadgetry, I was hooked. Our old kitchen table is still accumulating nicks and stains now as the crafts and projects table, and the kids still munch on snacks while working there.

Beautify Your Kitchen

Converting your kitchen into what you really want maybe beyond your means since you cannot just simply tear-up your cupboards or counter tops. How do you possibly renovate your kitchen with little money on hand?

The tip when it comes to renovating your kitchen is to start with a few things that do not break or renovations that won’t cost you much. Here are some simple, yet effective means to beautify your kitchen:

1 If you find your cabinet doors discolored or even not good looking after some time of cleaning, you can paint them with new color. A good paint or varnish can go a long way at the same time you can also get the opportunity to fix any broken hinges and handles.

2. Search for a simple but nice decor. For example, use your spice bottles with labels removed and the jars cleaned very well. Stack them to give your kitchen a country old look.

3. For a touch of natural beauty, why not add plants. Find something that requires little maintenance and is relatively resistant to conditions of heat and humidity found in the kitchen.

Outdoor Kitchen Designs for Your Patio

There are a variety of ways in which you could decorate your patio space to give you the ultimate kitchen environment. Apart from decorating, there are also appliances, fixtures and any number of products that can help you have an outdoor kitchen that would impress any chef. To be completely fair, it is likely that there will be some limiting factors that will related to how 'big' you can go. These are both based on budget and space restrictions. In other words, an outdoor kitchen can add up quickly and the design you have in mind may require more room than you have space to allow. Patio kitchens must still adhere to the same layout and design principles as any indoor kitchen to be completely efficient.

How do you go about narrowing down your selections or just blowing the whole budget and going full out? These decisions take careful consideration in order to really end up with a functional and usable kitchen space. You probably don't even need or use all of the appliances you see out there. Having it all can be a big drain on the budget. It is much better to invest in fewer quality items than to simply overload your patio. This may actually lead to more clutter and less usable kitchen space. After all, you'll be considering items like counters, furniture, lighting, grill tops, refrigerators, sinks, etc.

Your outdoor space can be just as contemporary or as rustic looking as you wish. For example, there are outdoor dining furniture sets that are made to look more rustic. These include more aged wood products. You might be familiar with the popular look of farmhouse tables.

You might be more inclined to choose some furniture that is more contemporary or modern in scope and design. There are newer wicker materials that are synthetic, so you can have the look of wicker without the deterioration of the natural material. Perhaps, glass or even a combination of metal and glass furniture is better suited to be in line with your outdoor kitchen designs and theme. If you host parties, then you'll need to keep in mind seating arrangements, too. Your new outdoor kitchen is sure to transform the entire look and feel of your patio space, enjoy!

Outdoor Kitchen Ideas And Designs

Creating or designing an outdoor kitchen that serves your needs is one of the most fulfilling outdoor projects you can complete. After all, isn't your patio supposed to be a magical place to relax and rejuvenate in? Of course it is! There are certain limiting factors, like budget and time deadlines that will affect the type of outdoor patio you are dreaming about. You should know that there are products and accessories available that continuously enter the market. Some of these things didn't even exist until much more recently. You can have your outdoor kitchen rival even the finest commercial quality kitchen. Designs could include tables, kitchen islands and counters and barstools just as some ideas.

With these ideas in mind, where does one start the design process? Well, the place you've begun here, the internet, is a great place to seek advice and pictures. You could also browse through custom home magazines and home shows. What you'll find may stretch or tax your budget. The whole idea of having every modern appliance made for the outdoors is not even necessary if you know how to maximize your kitchen's potential and your likely patio use. The list of features; faucts, lighting, sinks, refrigerators, dishwashers, coolers, ice makers, counters, etc. just continues to grow.

Just because you are designing for an outdoor space, don't think that it will necessarily cost less or be any less elegant as your indoor rooms. You might want a more rustic look and you can certainly achieve this with outdoor dining furniture like farmhouse tables and old wooden furniture. There are other natural and aged products to help create that chic look.

You could also be interested in a contemporary design or something more modern looking. Wicker patio furniture is also great looking and is now available as a synthetic material, so no need to worry about it deteriorating. There are also contemporary styles in glass and composites. All of these could work well in combination with your outdoor kitchen designs. You can imagine how it will transform the look and feel of your patio. Enjoy!

A+++

Usually at the start of the school year, teacher would give a “Getting to know you game”. This game would give every student a chance to know or be familiar with their classmates. It is something that a person tells about herself or himself. One would usually tell her/his name, where she/he lives, likes and dislikes and even what kind of a person she/he is.
When it was my turn to share, I told them about my hobbies more than the usual introduction. I told them that during my free time, I love to read, write and cook. My teacher was surprised to hear that I cook. I was the only student who said so. She challenged me to show my skill in cooking during our Home Economics period.
During our Home Economics class, we were assigned to cook something. We were assigned to work in groups. Since my classmates knew that I love to cook, many wanted to join me. I showed them my book entitled “Joy of Cooking the Easy Way". It is a compilation of recipes on easy cooking delicious and healthy foods. I chose a nice recipe to prepare. That was my favorite recipe. I even modified the way of cooking it.
Evaluation time came and our teacher tasted the food prepared by each group. She loved the taste and the food presentation that our group cooked. My group mates were given a score of A+ but I was given a grade of A+++. She knew that more credit should be given to me having cooked the food with excellent taste and presentation.

Decorate Your Kitchen Like A Pro

If you love to cook then you know that having a great-looking kitchen is enough inspiration for you to concoct more appetizing dishes for your family and guests. But sometimes due to size restrictions you might feel that it’s somewhat impossible to create the kitchen of your dreams.

Kitchen design, just like with any other rooms in your home, can be both exciting and challenging. Planning for the look and materials to use can be easy but actual execution entails a huge dose of patience and determination, but it’s always safer to cover the basics first. Keep in mind that having a minimalist look is also cost-effective but still yields great results.

Painting your walls with solid light colors will not only enlarge the look of a small kitchen space but also gives a brighter ambiance. Built-in cabinets for your utensils and condiments are also better, because of their space-saving benefits and instead of using wall-to-wall carpet, complementing your flooring with area rugs would be cheaper and would still look great.

Do not overwhelm your kitchen with too much decor because it will only end up looking and feeling too cramped and this isn’t something you’d wish for especially if you spend a lot of time in there.

Small Kitchen Space With A Larger Look

Are you ready for a kitchen makeover? Do you feel like your kitchen is becoming more and more crowded in the passing of time? Perhaps, you’re putting in more than the necessary. Or perhaps, you’re just not doing the right renovation that will make your kitchen lighter and bigger.

Contrary to what many homeowners believe, making a small kitchen seem larger does not require you spending too much on buying new things. You can start off with the wall paints of the kitchen. If you have a smaller space, you should consider painting the walls with lighter shades to give it a bigger look. Solid white is one of the most popular choices for kitchen wall paints, because it reflects a breezy and refreshing ambiance. On the other hand, do not underestimate the shades of other lighter hues such as pale blue or lilac. They are not only nice and easy in the eyes, but also make a wonderful color scheme choice that aims to enlarge the visual of your kitchen space.

Another way to get that larger look is to put more lights in your kitchen. Now, you would ask how much is enough? The thing is: we don’t want to limit our choice with artificial lighting. If your kitchen has some windows, make sure you do not cover them with heavy draperies. Otherwise, it will not only darken the space but also make the kitchen feel and look smaller than it already is. Get sheer fabric curtains to let in the light during daytime, and feel the cool air outdoors. This way, you will also feel so much more inspired when preparing your meals.

And now that you’re slowly achieving that well-lit kitchen, show some nice flooring tricks. Get modern rugs that have some clean cut designs to coordinate with the new look of your kitchen. These rugs will help define the space of your kitchen to make it look bigger.

And finally, make an effort to organize bits and pieces in your kitchen, from cooking utensils to your kitchen cabinetry. If there are things you no longer needed, then get rid of them. Do not stock items that no longer have use in your cooking or meal preparation just because it was purchased on a sale. You can either give it away for others to use or simply keep it in a storage room. Removing unnecessary clutter in your kitchen is a surefire way to achieve that brighter and larger look.

Your Quick Fix For A Boring Kitchen

Ask around about how people feel about their kitchen, and very few would actually say they love it, or at the very least, comfortable with it. With the increasing number of people living in high-rise condominiums, it might be easy to assume that these same people are probably so keen in preparing and cooking their own food using their kitchen tools. But wrong, because truth is that there are only a limited number of them who enjoy lingering around their kitchens and dashing off some recipes to enjoy.

But really, kitchens should not ingrain a bland look and feel to the point of hating cooking, too. First off, it helps a lot to fill your kitchen with the basic tools for cooking and dining. And since we’re talking about the basics, go for the durable ones. A lot of home décor stores these days sell expensive-looking dining wares at lower prices. Being brand conscious is not the most practical attitude these days. So be wise.

And what about your kitchens’ décor? Have you checked if you have any? Say, a beautiful rug in the middle of your kitchen area. If not, then now’s the time for you to get one, and add some inspiring color to your kitchen. Or what about consider changing your wall paintings in your kitchen. Say a light yellow shade to create a sunshiny ambiance. With this few simple things to remember, you’ll be more inspired and happy to walk around your kitchen more than you used to, it’s easy enough decorating your kitchen within a budget.

Recycle Me!

Being green has always been a fun trend as there is so much you can do to recycle and reuse items, sometimes in ways you don't expect to. When I was younger, there were wallets made out of duct tape and grocery bags, bags made out of other bags, and other things made out of other items. Now, there are dinner baskets made out of recycled plastic!

While this may not seem that appetizing, it's actually really cool. Colorful pieces of plastic are weaved into baskets and create a very nice addition to your dinner table that is bright and full of color. In addition to baskets, there are also bowls and trays and coasters that are also weaved from plastics.

Plastic is really harmful to the environment because they don't decompose, and so filling up landfills with plastic that will never go away really pollutes the earth. So finding ways to reuse and recycle plastics is really important in making sure our earth stays clean and livable!

The Most Desirable Kitchen Cabinet Styles

Historically, for most people, cabinets were cabinets. From their beginning, kitchen cabinet styles were cubicles with or without doors on them that hung on kitchen walls. Eventually base cabinets were added as housewives acquired additional kitchenware and had to have a place to store it. The cabinets weren't intended to be nice to look at, because they were supposed to be functional. Exceptions to this norm were in the palatial residences of the wealthy who had elaborately-carved wood and custom-designed cabinetry.

During the Victorian times, cabinetry, as with the taste in furniture, wallpaper, and carpets, was very ornate, built using fine hardwoods. You may have had the opportunity to visit some of these vintage homes and see the elaborate cabinetry wealthy people enjoyed. Kitchen cabinet styles were basically limited to what people could afford.

Modern cabinets have evolved into several different styles in many different price ranges to meet the needs of every homeowner. Instead of just being basic boxes containing shelves any longer, there are numerous specialty cabinets you can choose from, such as a pantry, a cabinet with a fold-out shelf for a heavy appliance, or open plate racks. Cabinets are built using solid woods like oak, cherry, maple, and birch in addition to those with melamine or wood veneers. Tastes can vary from modern contemporary styles to elaborate, hand-carved units. It all depends on what you want.

The initial thing to consider when selecting a kitchen cabinet style is the architectural style of your home. Many people would rather have kitchen cabinets that look good with the home décor which makes their kitchen appear that it is an integral part of the rest of the house. The most popular styles that that are available for kitchen cabinets include:
* Traditional – formal kitchen cabinet style with hardwoods, dark stains, and
polished brass hardware. Conforms
with the styles of the 18th and 19th century.
* Contemporary – sleek, streamlined cabinetry with simple, basic lines and flush
doors. Can be built of many different materials, such as wood, glass, laminates,
chrome, or stainless steel.
* Shaker – extremely simple, plain wood cabinets
finished with dyes and oils.
* Country – simple lines for a very laid back look.
Finished with paints or stains and either with or without doors
* Rustic – knotty pine, strap hinges, and simple kitchen cabinet
style.
* French Country – European styling with
intricate, carved moldings and even feet,
more like furniture than kitchen cabinets.
* Arts and Crafts – Square, bold lines
created in Mission style. Often of oak.
* Cottage – casual and cozy with mismatchedstylescabinetry, finishes, and hardware.

With all of these different kitchen cabinet styles to select from, there's sure to be one that will look great in your home and blend your kitchen into your overall décor. You can also add individual spins to the styles of some of the cabinets. For instance, you might want to consider adding leaded glass inserts to the doors or finish them with speciality glazes and exotic hardware. As you can see, kitchen cabinets aren't just cubes any more. They're a statement of your good taste.

Find Info on Counter Depth Refrigerators

Counter depth refrigerators are built to be flush to the cupboards. They're essentially smaller compared to the standard sized chillers, yet they cost extra money. So, is it feasible to spend that extra money on a refrigerator that's basically smaller compared to the one that you most likely already have? Well, that depends on the person. In most instances, I'd say no.

These refrigerators are supposed to sit flush with your cupboards ; makers have forgotten about the handle and other hardware that still protrude. They say that with one of these refrigerators you gain more workable kitchen space. To that I say,'What?' Do you notice that the only space that you gain is roughly six inches? Now, how much more space is that? 6 inches truly isn't going to help if you already have a small kitchen or if you've got a huge one.

You can expect to pay more money for one of these refrigerators because they are supposed to be classy and allow for better design appeal in the kitchen. Which is more crucial — usable space in the fridge or how something looks? Yep, it may be correct that consumers in today's society have a tendency to lean towards trends, however if the trend adversely is affecting the quality and functionality of something that each one of us uses on an everyday basis should we go with the trend? Counter Depth Refrigerators,

I say it depends on whether you've a family. Does that make sense? Well, here's why. A single person or perhaps a pair without youngsters would possibly do well with a little refrigerator, but those among us who have youngsters need that extra space. The crisper drawers in the counter depth refrigerators are just about worthless. You could be ready to fit one head of lettuce in it. The shelves will not hold as much, and even the door will hold less. Oh, and let's not even debate the freezer. Counter Depth Refrigerators,

To each his very own. However, before you're making an investment in a counter depth refrigerator, please entirely check them out. Look to see if theycan supply you with the space that you're going to want. For those shoppers who donot maintain agreengrocer grocery store in their own home ( like many people with youngsters do ) they it may work well for you. for those among us who spend $200 per week on groceries, where are we going to put all of it? Counter Depth Refrigerators,

One thing is for sure, before getting a counter depth refrigerator ensure that you do your homework. It's a large investment, and Imight hate to see you spend that type of money on something that you are only going to hate in the long run. Worse yet, don't spend that kind of money on something that you will check at some point soon, is too small.

How to Transform Tired Kitchen Cupboards into Beautiful Ones

There are lots of differing types of cabinets or cupboards. Everyone has kitchen cupboards, some of which have in-built cupboards. The kinds of cupboards include medicine cupboards, toy cupboards, garage cupboards, curio cupboards and lavatory cupboards. Regardless of where the cupboards are, it is found that each one of them serve one purpose to store things.

Often, we store things in a cupboard for a major period of time and they don't frequently get opened like a curio cupboard. Other sorts of cupboards are far more functional and receive a huge amount of wear and daily use like the kitchen, garage or rest room cupboard. There are some ways to give old cabinets a new life.

A more expensive way to enliven old cupboards is to lose them fully and buy and install other ones. There are plenty of varying degrees of quality when it comes to cupboards. Cherry is going to be a lot more expensive than veneer material. Also the planning of your cabinets will be a determining aspect in how much they're going to cost also.

The fancier the design on the door of the cupboard is, the larger the ticket is. If you like the concept of having new cupboards without ripping your kitchen apart or the price that comes with that work, you can always have your cupboards refaced.

The base of your cupboards stays intact and nothing is removed from your kitchen excepting the old drawer fronts and doors. The most serious advantage to having your cupboards refaced instead of replaced is that they will be completed in about 3 days, that the price tag is significantly lower and that you'll still feel like you were given a new, updated kitchen.

There are a few things that you can do to sharpen up older cupboards before making a call to take out a little loan and install other ones. First, try changing out the hardware or knobs on your cupboards. Though better quality knobs will cost a touch more, you may be confounded at what new knobs and drawer pulls will do to your outdated cupboards.

There's no need to sand them down absolutely before you apply paint. Also, employ a primer first that's made to lift the adhesion of paint. When selecting paint, be sure that whatever color you decide on , you choose a hi-gloss finish or enamel. By trying an enamel or high gloss paint there's no real need to use polyurethane as a sealant.

Budget-Friendly Methods of Getting New Kitchen Cabinets

Your kitchen cabinets are one of the focal points of your kitchen, and you want to have cabinets that are both convenient and which look appealing. Sometimes, however, people invest in homes in which the cupboards have certainly seen better days, and they think of improving their kitchens by replacing kitchen cabinets with some of the beautiful ones they've noticed in showrooms. Unfortunately, replacing all of your kitchen cabinets with high-quality new ones can run into big bucks, and many people don't have the ready cash they need to buy top-of-the-line, solid hardwood cabinets. There are some methods you can use, however, that will give you great-looking kitchen cabinets at a fraction of the price of showroom cabinets.

When you thinks it's time for replacing kitchen cabinets, you can go to your local home improvement store, choose the style and material you'd like to have, and spend time with a sales rep to determine just what you're going to need. The store will also be likely to send out a contractor who can determine measurements of size and make cabinet recommendations. This is high level service, and you should expect to pay a premium price for it. For example, these salespeople are bound to tell you that the whole cabinet should be replaced, when you might be able to get by with just replacing the doors. Sanding and finishing the existing cabinetry takes time, but it isn't as hard to do as you might think.

Unless your existing cabinets are the old metal kind or some type of soft or wood products like MDF and particle board, refinishing them will most likely do the trick. You can even revamp the doors if they're still in useable condition. The doors, however, take the hardest beating by being opened and closed dozens of times each day. You can, however, buy only the cabinet doors and refinish your cabinets to go with the doors, and it can save you hundreds of dollars.

If your cabinets can't be saved, you'll need to find other ways to obtain the cabinets you need. To begin with, you could try salvage yards. These are places that offer used materials, and occasionally you can really be awed at what you will find, because people trade in some super nice things. If you can locate a set of cabinets at a salvage yard that you can fix up, you might end up with cherry or walnut or some other costly wood in your kitchen after all.

You might also try going to lumber liquidator stores. These businesses sell new materials at low prices. A whole room full of brand new oak cabinets can actually cost you just pennies on the dollar. You'll be required to do your own measuring and installation, or you can use a contractor to measure and hang them for you. However you do it, your kitchen will seem brand new, and you won't have spent a lot of money replacing kitchen cabinets.

How We Can Transform the Old Kitchen To Stunning One.

Kitchen transforming is one of the most interesting DIY projects for many owners. The initial step to your new kitchen is to set a budget. Decide how much cash you are ready to spend. Be sure to leave a cushion in your financial position for extra, surprising costs.

When determining your financial position, mull over how long you propose to stay in your house. If you're planning to sell in the following year or thereabouts, you might need to spend less cash. Pick which features you have got to have in your new kitchen.

You can take shortcuts in other areas by replacing cheaper materials for the counter tops, flooring or cupboard doors. Research Kitchen Trends Before you start planning your transforming project, perform some research on the existing trends and designs being employed in kitchens. Look for data on the internet or in home decorating magazines.

Visit your local DIY center for more ideas. Start a file for footage of kitchens you like, furniture, appliances, fabric swatches or anything more you find interesting. This can help when you are prepared to start purchasing items for your new room.
Options in Kitchen reworking Cupboards are a costly item in any reworking project. They frequently take up half the final budget for the room. If you're unable to afford the price of new cupboards, there are cheaper possible choices. In resurfacing, the doors are replaced and exterior wood areas are covered.
This is far less dear since you are making use of the same cupboards. An even more cost-effective alternative is to paint your present cupboards and buy new hardware. If you've got to have new cupboards, consider adding some further features.
Features like lean out drawers, pull out rubbish cans or a lazy Susan within a corner cupboard are great space savers and make the room more functional. You're able to economize on flooring and countertops too.
Substitute vinyl flooring in the place of more costly ceramic tile to economize. If you can install ceramic tiles yourself, you may have them for roughly the price you would pay a contractor to install vinyl flooring. Countertops alter significantly in price depending on the material that's's used. Counters that are way sturdier are also more costly. You will find more economical material that gives the look of marble, butcher's block or other costly materials. When you have decided what you need, consider what quantity of the job you can do yourself.
The more you can do, the more you will save in the general price of the room. Use the savings for great new furniture.

The most common way and a very good way to find a designer is by asking friend you know who recently did a remodeling job. I would ask friends and family for advice on hiring a designer and contractor. Go and look at friends and family that have remodeled their kitchen and you admire their's. In designing and remodeling the designer must respect the client's ideas and the way the client uses the space they are remodeling. The first step in designing a room or space is what kind of design you might want in the space or room. To start this process I would take notes on things in magazines and on the internet that you find. Then you should find a designer that matches you taste and your feelings on what you want to do with your room or space that you are remodeling. If a designer specializes in contemporary spaces and you live in an historic home, it is not going to be a good match for your kitchen remodel design. Another thing you should do in finding a designer is to look on a internet site, they have lots of sources that you can turn to when remodeling you room. Refer to kitchen for more information.

Once you have located, trust and found a designer for your kitchen remodeling process and a plan that you have decided on it is time to find and hire a contractor for this project. A really good place to find a contractor is to ask your designer if they know of anybody or they recommend anybody for your remodeling process. If they can not help you I would research contractors on the internet, some sites may have a list of contractors that specialize in kitchen remodeling. When you look for one check their history and see if they have an example of the contractors recent remodeling projects if that is possible.

Research your contractors work with the Better Business Bureau to see if they have any bad history on them. Another way to take this is to go through any home improvement chain of stores. They know and use a lot of good professional contractors they do not have or the time money to work with any contractor that does not have a good work history. It is also a good idea to just check the references of contractors so you do not get bad service with any contractor. Visit kitchen for further information.
