Bring Your Walls To Life – 4 Easy Ways

There’s no missing them; they are larger than life and all over the house. Walk into any room and the first thing that is likely to catch your eye is the walls of the room. Whether you choose to paint all the rooms in the same shade of ivory or whether you choose different colors for different rooms, the fact is, ennui could set in after a while and you could find yourself impatient for a change.

While it is rather impractical to change the color of your walls every now and then, you could perhaps subject your walls to different kinds of treatments that are designed to make them go from blah to beautiful in one day. What’s more, all you need to buy are sufficient paint cans and you are all set for a change of scene. Remember, however that creating designs on your walls and waiting for the paint to dry can take quite a bit of time. For best results, it is best not to hurry up the process.

Some of the better types of paint to use for your interior painting project include:

  • Enamel
  • Epoxy
  • Alkyd
  • Latex
  • Latex flat enamel

Here are a few techniques that are easy to do and are guaranteed to bring your walls to life and add texture and depth to your room.

Stenciling
Stenciling is one of the easiest and cheapest of all wall decorating ideas. All you need to do is take a stencil with the desired pattern, place it wherever you wish to create a design and paint using your chosen color. When you remove the template, the design that is painted through, remains on the wall. Stencils can be bought or created in a variety of designs and sizes and can be used to create a continuous border, an overall pattern or one prominent design in a strategic location. Paint stencils in contrasting colors for a more striking effect.

Rubber Stamping
Rubber stamping is another easy and cheap wall decorating option that is great fun to do and produces unbelievable results. All you need is a rubber stamp in the desired design or several rubber stamps in various designs and a can of paint. Brush a small quantity of paint onto the stamp, dab off the extra and then stamp on the wall. That’s it! Decorate the wall with one design or decorate it using several different designs; create a continuous pattern or a random design; use only one complementary color or use several different contrasting colors for more drama. Rubber stamping is a versatile technique that offers you limitless options.

Sponge Painting
One of the easiest of all faux painting techniques, all you need to sponge paint your walls is a simple sea sponge and a tray for holding the paint of your choice. If you cannot get hold of a sea sponge, just create an irregular surface by ripping and tearing an ordinary kitchen sponge. Dip into paint, dab off the excess paint and pat onto the wall as loosely or as intricately as you wish to achieve the desired effect. Varying the direction of the sponge creates a look that is more natural and less contrived.

Rag Rolling
Roll up a textured rag in the similar way that you would roll up a newspaper or magazine and roll it over the wet paint that has been already applied to the wall. This simple technique adds unexpected texture and character to an otherwise plain wall.
