A Long-Lasting Décor For Your Baby Room

If you don’t want to spend lots of time and money redecorating your baby room every year, make sure to choose a long-lasting décor that will remain practical as your baby grows.

Babies do grow up faster than we expect. This is one thing you should remember when you start brainstorming with decorating ideas for your baby room. The biggest mistake overwhelmed expecting parents do is decorate for an infant, ignoring or simply forgetting the fact that a baby room will be their son or daughter’s personal multi-use space for many years to come and therefore should be able to meet his or her growing needs.

The task of creating a long-lasting baby room décor may seem daunting, though it is really all about considering things from a practical side. Little planning goes a long distance. Outline the general look for your baby room – its tone, theme if any, and the positioning of furniture. Then move to details and accessories keeping the consistency of the chosen look.

Babyish colors may look cute, but they are not too practical as you may discover later. As a solid background for decorating, select neutral tones or even white – you can always repaint your walls later or get a mural done if you wish so. Painted walls have an advantage over papered walls because they can easily be changed; they are also a better base for decorating since there is less chance to damage them when you attach and remove the decorative items.

Choosing the right type of furniture is the most essential factor in practical baby room décor. The rule of thumb is to buy transformable furniture, preferably with a lot of hidden storing space. There are convertible cribs that turn into toddler beds and changing tables that can be converted into dressers. There are baby beds with a spacious down compartment for storing toys and other things. Explore the potential of each furniture piece before you decide to purchase it, and you will save a lot of hard-earned money in the long run.

Of course, it makes sense to invest in sturdy furniture of good quality if you intend to use it for many years to come. Though more traditional or classic style may seem boring in a baby room, your son or daughter will never “outgrow” it. A few well-chosen accessories can liven up the room’s spirit and take the attention away from the furniture itself. For the bed, the most obvious way to add color and style would be kids’ bedding.

As you see, in general, anything that is convertible, multi-purpose or easily changeable should be employed to the fullest to create a long-lasting and practical baby room décor. Removable stickers can be used to create nice wall and even ceiling décor and are easy to change when your child’s interests start switching overnight. Theme rugs are one more cheap and easy way to add accents to the play area.

Remember not to clutter your baby room with unnecessary decorative items. It will take years for your child to understand that all the little frills are what you call home décor and not his or her toys. Besides, having too many delicate and fragile things in your baby room is not only unpractical, but can be dangerous for your child, too.
